Owners over 65 pay half or less: $2.50 a year for a spayed or neutered dog and $5 for one that isn’t (City flyer). The dog park tag is sold through participating vets and needs proof of several vaccines and a fecal test.

Vet bills
Spot Pet Insurance’s claims data puts the average dog vet bill in Chicago at $452 (Spot, claims from 2019 to May 2025). That’s an average per claim, which includes sick visits and procedures, so a routine checkup usually costs less.
Pet deposits and rentals
Under the Chicago RLTO, a refundable pet deposit is treated like a security deposit, so the same interest, receipt and return rules apply. The Illinois Supreme Court held this in Lawrence v. Regent Realty Group (197 Ill. 2d 1). See Chicago move-in costs for those rules.
