Key takeaway: A Divvy annual membership costs $143.90 in 2026 ($99 for new members on a limited-time offer) and covers classic bike rides up to 45 minutes. Without a membership, a classic ride is $1 plus $0.20 a minute.

Divvy is one of the cheapest ways to get around Chicago from spring through fall, and the right plan depends on how often you ride. Here’s what each option costs.

Divvy for Everyone: $5 a year
Divvy for Everyone gives eligible Chicago residents 16 and older a $5 annual membership with classic rides up to 45 minutes included, e-bike rides at $0.05 a minute and scooter rides at $0.10 a minute (Divvy for Everyone). You qualify if your household gets SNAP, WIC, LIHEAP or public housing assistance, or, signing up in person, if household income is at or below 300% of the federal poverty level, which is $46,950 for one person (Divvy help center).
Is Divvy or the CTA cheaper?
A 30-day CTA pass is $75 and runs all year (CTA). Plenty of Chicagoans pair the two: Divvy for short trips in good weather, the L and buses for the commute and the cold months. See our guide to CTA fares in 2026.
What changed in 2026
- Divvy raised some prices on March 11, 2026, including the day pass from $18.10 to $19.90 and the member scooter rate from $0.31 to $0.34 a minute, and added more than 200 new or upgraded stations (Fox 32).
- Riders can now pause a trip for up to 15 minutes, and non-members starting a ride in the city’s Equity Priority Areas pay no unlock fee (Fox 32).
- The city and Lyft kept the $99 new-member price and froze the $143.90 annual price through 2026, after Divvy riders took a record 6.8 million trips in 2025 (NACTO).
Where you park an e-bike or scooter changes the price
Ending an e-bike or scooter ride at a Divvy station, an e-station or one of the 500+ approved public bike racks is free, per Divvy. Lock up anywhere else and you pay extra.
| Where the ride ends | Member | Non-member |
|---|---|---|
| Divvy station, e-station or approved rack | Free | Free |
| Other public rack, sign or pole in the service area | $2.00 | $3.00 |
| Outside the service area, or a parking violation | $25 | $25 |

Locking to a tree, to private property or to the bike itself counts as a violation. Shared scooters also shut off by GPS on Sheridan Road in Edgewater between Devon and Bryn Mawr, per the Chicago Sun-Times, so plan to end those rides before you reach it.
Card holds, lost bike fees and time limits
- Divvy may place a security hold of up to $100 on your card, per its terms of use.
- A rental not ended within 24 consecutive hours counts as lost or stolen, with a fee of up to $1,200 (terms of use).
- Day pass rides over three hours are charged $0.20 a minute (Divvy).
- Per-minute prices round up to the next full minute (Divvy).
- Riders must be at least 16 (terms of use).
If a station is full, Divvy gives a free 15-minute credit to reach another dock, so you are not charged while you look (terms of use).
When an annual membership pays off
Compare the membership with day passes. At $143.90 a year, membership costs less than 8 day passes at $19.90 each (our calculation: $143.90 / $19.90 = 7.2). At the $99 new-member price, the break-even is 5 day passes ($99 / $19.90 = 5.0). Prices are from Divvy’s annual membership page and Divvy’s 2026 price update.
If you ride more than a handful of days a year, the membership is usually the cheaper way to plan.
